Radon is colorless, odorless gas that originates in the bedrock of soil. It exists just about everywhere, both inside and/or outside homes & buildings and certainly in NJ. The issue with radon is that it is a radioactive element and the second leading cause of lung cancer to cigarette smoking. Thousands of deaths per year are due to radon, so you should have your home, building, and property tested for Radon.

 For a new home, it's a good idea to ask if radon-resistant construction features were used and if the home has ever been tested. While Radon levels at less than 4 pCi/L pose a risk, one should consider fixing the home if a radon test level is at or above 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L).
